- I live in a wrinkle-ranch (retirement home). After retiring as an R.N. I settled in to care for my husband who has Parkinson’s Disease. Caregiver burnout can be dangerous so I chose to unleash my creative desires. Thanks to caregivers who come in each morning, I usually paint every morning. I have had little instruction and find the Internet a great help. My few months of oil painting instruction were frustrating. My instructor would take my brush and paint on MY creation instead of telling me what needed to be done. About that time we moved to Boulder and I decided to self instruct. Thank you to all who take the time to make teaching videos. Acrylics satisfy my desire for color, ease of cleaning and speed. My style is evolving because I will see a painting I admire and try to replicate the brush technique/strokes in my next painting. My subjects are eclectic, from Afghan fighters to dragonflies, to abstracts. Nudes are the easiest for me due to my study of anatomy. When an idea comes I feel that I MUST paint it. As I drift off to sleep, I move elements around the canvas, chose color combinations, or solve painting problems. My subconscious is my best friend.
